WBDO - The pre registration phase

🌱 The Birth of a Movement: WBDO’s Pre-Registration Journey

Before an idea becomes a mission and a mission becomes a movement, it begins with a spark. For the West Bengal Disability Organization (WBDO), that spark ignited during a series of passionate conversations, community efforts, and digital mobilization—all rooted in the shared vision of empowering people with disabilities (PWDs).

📲 Digital Beginnings: Organizing Through Social Media

Even before formal registration, the foundation of WBDO was taking shape across WhatsApp groups, Facebook pages, and online forums. These virtual platforms became the first gathering grounds for individuals who wanted to make a difference. From awareness posts to digital protests and information sharing, social media was the heartbeat of this early phase.

The name "WBDO"—which now symbolizes strength, unity, and inclusion—was first suggested and agreed upon in these WhatsApp and Facebook groups. Contributors like Bijay Sarkar, Rana Sarkar, Amlan Das, Saheb Islam, and many other early members played pivotal roles in naming the organization and designing its initial logo—a symbol of hope, advocacy, and action.

🧑‍💻 Leadership in Action

The informal yet powerful structure of WBDO’s early days was built on volunteer leadership and community spirit. Rana Sarkar and his peers used social media platforms to voice the concerns and rights of PWDs through online campaigns and advocacy posts. Bijoy Sarkar, a key catalyst, hosted several early online meetings that brought individuals together across districts.

As momentum grew, Arnab Ghosh joined Bijoy Sarkar in organizing virtual discussions, helping shape the direction and structure of the emerging community. Their combined efforts ensured continuity and focus in the run-up to formal registration.

🤝 Community to Committee: A Collective Decision

With a WhatsApp group of 50 to 100 active members, discussions evolved from ideas to actionable plans. One major milestone was the unanimous decision to form an Executive Non-Governmental Organization (ENO) to better serve the community’s needs.

It was collectively agreed that specially-abled individuals who were active, committed, and willing to take on responsibilities would become part of the core committee after official registration. This democratic and inclusive approach laid the groundwork for WBDO's organizational ethos.

💬 The Mark of Amlan Kumar Das

From the beginning, Amlan Kumar Das stood out as a dedicated voice, encouraging more people to join the cause and participate in the group. His outreach and energy were vital in expanding the community and solidifying its support base.

🌟 A New Chapter Begins

The pre-registration phase of WBDO was more than just preparation—it was the soul of a movement coming to life. Through digital activism, collective decision-making, and the tireless efforts of a few passionate individuals, the foundation was laid for what is now a growing and impactful organization.

As WBDO continues its mission to promote economic empowerment, social inclusion, and rights of persons with disabilities, we look back at these early moments with pride and gratitude. They remind us that every movement begins with belief—and belief becomes change when people unite.
